About this app
Trident FM is an independent fan-made Android application created by Joël, an individual developer based in Switzerland. The app allows listeners around the world to tune into three radio stations of the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) Barbados: 98.1 The One, Vibe 94.7 FM and Q100.7 FM.
Trident FM is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially associated with the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation. All station names, logos, and trademarks belong to their respective owners.
Information collected
I collect no personal information. The app does not require an account, and it never asks for your name, email, phone number, location, or any other identifying data.
The app does not use analytics, advertising frameworks, crash reporting services, or any third-party tracking SDK.
How the app works
When you select a station in Trident FM, your device connects directly to the public stream URLs that CBC Barbados makes available through their own website. The audio and video streams are not routed through any server controlled by me. Your connection works exactly the same way as if you opened the player on cbc.bb in your browser.
I do not host the streams, I do not relay them, and I have no visibility into who listens to what. The app itself does not store any history of what you listened to, when, or for how long.
Permissions used by the app
Trident FM requests the following Android permissions, and only for the features described:
- Internet access: required to stream audio and video from public broadcast servers.
- Foreground service (media playback): required to keep audio playing reliably when the screen is off or the app is in the background, as expected from any radio app.
- Post notifications (Android 13+): required to display playback controls in the notification shade and on the lock screen.
- Microphone (optional, can be denied): only used by the visual audio spectrum feature, which animates in response to the live audio level. The microphone signal is never recorded, transmitted, or stored. It is processed in real time on your device and immediately discarded. If you deny this permission, the spectrum simply switches to a synthetic animation and the rest of the app keeps working normally.
Data usage and mobile charges
Trident FM streams live audio and video over the internet. This consumes data, and the amount depends on the stream quality and how long you listen.
If you use the app over a mobile data connection (3G, 4G, 5G) instead of Wi-Fi, your mobile carrier may charge you according to your data plan. I have no control over and accept no responsibility for any data charges, overage fees, or roaming costs incurred while using Trident FM. Please make sure you are aware of your data plan, especially when traveling or when using mobile data abroad.
To avoid unexpected charges, I recommend listening over Wi-Fi whenever possible.
Third-party connections
The app itself shares nothing about you. However, when you stream content, your device establishes a direct connection with the public broadcast servers that host the live streams. The exact location and operator of these servers is determined by CBC Barbados, and may include third-party content delivery networks. As with any internet connection, the servers you connect to may log technical information such as your IP address. For details about how CBC handles such information, please refer to their own privacy practices on cbc.bb.
No warranty & service availability
Trident FM is provided "as is", free of charge, with no warranty of any kind, express or implied. I do not own, operate, or control the radio stations, the live streams, or the servers that broadcast them.
As a result, I cannot and do not guarantee:
- That the audio or video streams will be available at any given time
- That the stream URLs will remain unchanged or continue to work in the future
- That the content of the broadcasts will match any particular expectation
- That the app will be free of bugs or interruptions
- That the app will remain compatible with future versions of Android
If the broadcaster decides to discontinue the streams, change their format, or take any other action regarding their service, the app may stop working partially or entirely, and I have no control over that.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, I shall not be held liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) Trident FM, including but not limited to: service interruptions, data charges incurred by streaming, dissatisfaction with broadcast content, or any other matter related to the app.
You use the app at your own discretion and at your own risk.
Content responsibility
All audio and video content played through Trident FM is broadcast by the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation and its stations. I have no editorial control over what is broadcast, and I am not responsible for the content, accuracy, legality, or appropriateness of any broadcast received through the app.
Intended audience
Trident FM is intended for a general adult audience. The app contains no advertising, no in-app purchases, no social features, and no content directed at children. As stated above, no data is collected from anyone using the app, regardless of age.
Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Since the app does not collect data and is built as a personal project, significant changes are unlikely.
